Hello! I am Maya Welford, and I would like to share my insights and experiences with being a volunteer for LMF Network. I set up and lead LMF's Social Mobility Pillar, a key addition to the network in 2021.
Outside of LMF, I am a Global Wellbeing Manager at a multi-national corporate. I recently launched my podcast, That's My Name, where I discuss names with guests from all walks of life. So do check it out, listen and subscribe!
A few years ago, I discovered LMF when I met LMF's founder, Sonya Barlow, after being asked to participate as a panellist for a career insight event Sonya was organising at her alma mater. After this, Sonya and I remained in touch, and I officially joined as a volunteer towards the end of 2020.
I am committed to inclusion and uplifting others. However, I wanted to do more in the social mobility space, given my passion for supporting and empowering the upcoming generation, particularly those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.
Part of my work for LMF has included partnering with former LMF intern Sana Khan to conduct research into social mobility and make recommendations on how to make a positive impact. You can read about that here.
I have built and now lead a team focused on mobilising our efforts around social mobility. Our flagship initiative will be launched later this year.
A sneak preview is that it will include workshops focused on teaching you what you don’t learn at school, college or university, but is crucial to employability and for successfully starting your career.
For example, Louise Wan will be leading a session called ‘What I Wish I Knew’ as she reflects on her career. It will also include a team-based project focused on solving a problem around the theme of social mobility, led by Preiti Randhawa.
Look out for posts on LMF socials over the coming months for more details, which Arka Raina is currently creating.

We specialise in designing and delivering accessible programmes and supporting a global community. We’ve gone from a brunch club to a social good brand based on what the community wanted.
